My friend asked me today “would you rather find your soul mate, have them for a little while but weren’t able to be with them or would you rather never meet them ever but know they’re still out there?”
I told her that we find bliss in ignorance so I would rather never meet them and if I did I would do everything in my power to make it work. Sometimes it hurts so much worse to have something so important ripped away. In her just asking the question, it was like I could see and feel the pain that she was harboring. She’s married now but she was talking about someone else. Someone that still lived in her heart. Someone she never got the timing right with.
It killed me to see her give me a fake smile as she said “It’s okay though I have my husband now and we’re doing great.”
Love and connections are real. They’re just not simple. They’re complicated and difficult much like the people involved. It’s just our choice whether we are willing to potentially suffer and hurt along the journey or finally find what we were looking for. That someone that makes our existence real to us. Someone that makes us better than the best we’ve been offering the world. Someone real. Be boring if you are, it suits you better than the fake wannabe trying to live a foolishly impulse-driven, uneducated life. We need to remember what’s important and what’s bullshit.
Believe it or not, social interactions and relationships are essential needs to our psyche and living a healthy life. But one needs to remember quality over quantity. We need to hold on to significant and substantial ones because we may never find them again and will be cursed trying to fill the void with meaningless and minuscule ones.
